When William Cossart arrived in Madeira in 1808 after a 6 year journey from Dublin (his boat was hijacked by the French), William Gordon, founder of the island's oldest shipper, had the prefix he'd been waiting for. Fugitive from Scotland's '45 Rebellion', Gordon was pleased that his wines were used to toast America's Declaration of Independence. This is the lightest style of Madeira, a fine balance of buttery, nutty richness and zesty lemon peel flavour. Chill; enjoy with olives or nuts.
