We were the first to beat a path to Miguel Roquette's ex-Roman fort ('castrum'), high above the Douro. In 1994 he sagely drafted in Australia's David Baverstock (top consultant and winemaker to Sir Cliff) who forged a cast-iron plan for realising the potential of Crasto's centuries-old vineyards.
