Sunday, June 29th, 2008
The lush, green, rolling hills of Beaujolais are home to many different styles, with surprising degrees of variation given the near-complete domination of the Gamay grape. Ten 'cru' villages on granite hills to the north of the region are home to the most substantial wines, and Chénas is renowned for producing some of the longest-lived wines. This is youthful yet sturdy, with plenty of vibrant raspberry fruit. Lovely drinking with roast poultry or soft cheeses.

Jean des Vignes Rouge
Sunday, June 29th, 2008
One of our most popular reds: elegant and appetising, a mix of Gascon grapes plus a pleasing dash of Merlot. Our 'Jean des Vignes' range is designed to showcase the best in good-quality everyday-drinking from southern France. Made in this case by the ultra-reliable Plaimont winery, who have an admirable focus on polishing the finer characters of the region's local grapes, bringing intriguing styles to a wide audience.

2005 Dehesa Gago, Telmo Rodriguez
Sunday, June 29th, 2008
There's no stopping Telmo Rodriguez, tireless champion of obscure Spanish grape varieties and reviver of ancient vineyards. He roams relentlessly from his Rioja HQ (the Rodriguez family's respected Remelluri estate) seeking out long-forgotten parcels of vines and unlocking their potential. From north-western Spain's hot, rocky, rugged Toro region, this pure Tempranillo is dark, enticing and earthy, with robust bramble fruit flavours and hints of black chocolate richness.

2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, Paul Cluver Elgin, South Africa
Sunday, June 29th, 20082004 Domaine Richeaume, Cuvée Tradition
Sunday, June 29th, 2008
Impeccably organic, an impressive alliance of lush, cassis-rich Cabernet and gamey, generous Syrah. Domaine Richeaume lies at the foot of Provence's Sainte-Victoire mountain. The winery itself was built on the vestiges of a Roman Villa by organic vigneron Henning Hoesch. All viticulture at the estate is biodynamic, to the extent that a flock of sheep has been installed to provide fertiliser. Henning produces powerful wines, deserving, as he says, "5 to 6 years of patience".

2002 Château Falfas (half)
Saturday, June 28th, 2008
Substantial, well-structured, biodynamic claret with ripe concentration of black fruit flavours and restrained oak. John and Véronique Cochran, whose vineyards spread out from their 14th century château (once home to the lords of Lansac, faithful to the English Crown) in an area called 'the little Switzerland of the Gironde' have won praise for their wines from the 'Revue des Vins du France'. Unfiltered, this wine may leave a deposit, natural expression of a living product.

2003 Château de Beaucastel
Saturday, June 28th, 2008
A brooding beauty that's just starting to show at its best: aromas of roast game and herbs, a dense, rich palate of blackcurrants, figs and plums and a firm tannic finish. Since 1549, Beaucastel has been home to some of the finest Châteauneuf-du-Papes, made from the fruit of classic, pudding stone-strewn vineyards. Marc and Pierre Perrin's progressive commitment to organic cultivation echoes the spirit of their Edwardian scientist forebear, Pierre Perrin, a colleague of Louis Pasteur.
